This room is about my new sculpture called 'The House of Imagination'
I will be creating this new sculpture for the Cromer Art Space Sculpture Exhibition showing at The Grove Hotel in Cromer, North Norfolk.
My sculpture is a large dolls house with objects inside, which the onlooker can view through the windows. It will have some lighting with solar panels on the roof. My piece will be made from recycled materials found in my garden, plus other found objects for the inside.
Why a dolls house?
Well, I have always loved buildings of any kind. They have a soul, they are like a human being. A house or shed has poetry inside it. My work reflects concepts of history, love, inheritance, being at one, memory, loss, roots, comfort and nostalgia.
The book 'The poetics of Space' by Gaston Bachelard has influenced my thinking regarding the house as being a place to use your imagination. To find a space to read or write poetry. The 'house' is your soul !!
This dolls house is a space to make up stories, have adventures and fun.
